Local Green Space Nomination
Overview
The Adopted Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Local Plan (2019) identifies a number of open spaces that are protected for the benefit of local residents. A significant number of these sites are managed by the Council, but some locations are also maintained by Parish Councils, Management Companies or other parties.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) allows for Local Plans to designate Local Green Space as a way to provide special protection against development of green areas that are of particular importance to local communities. The NPPF is clear that Local Green Space designation should only be used where the green space is:
a) in reasonably close proximity to the community it serves;
b) demonstrably special to a local community and holds a particular local significance, for example because of its beauty, historic significance, recreational value (including as a playing field), tranquillity or richness of its wildlife; and
c) local in character and is not an extensive tract of land.
In this survey we are asking communities to identify areas for consideration as Local Green Space. We will use this information to assess which locations should be designated in the emerging Local Plan. Only one site for Local Green Space must be submitted per form. Please complete additional forms if you would like to submit more Local Green Space sites.
Further information on Local Green Spaces is available in the National Planning Policy Framework and other available Government Guidance.
